The MQHYA meeting was held, Saturday, January 6 at the Hilton in Jackson, Ms.
The following members were in attendance:: Wyler Burks, McKenzie Hunter, Alexandra Knopp, Josie Burks, Jenny Ferguson, Courtney Lee, Devan Hinds, Brooke Ware, Amy Guenther, Taylor Dunn, Abbey Scott, Clancy Scott, Anna Dennis, Clyde Barnes, Hart Daniel, McRae Clay, Kalee McCann , Mamie Tomlin, and Kristen Kimble.
The meeting was opened by Youth Adviser Mark Clay and called to order by Youth Association President Wyler Burks.
A motion was made by Mamie and carried to dispense with the reading of the previous meeting’s minutes.
President Burks announced the need for help with the box seats at Dixie National for the Free -Style reining. Also needed was help marking box seats, people to make sure spectators get to their correct seats and the need for parents to help with the ticket sales at the Free- Style Reining event.
He also mentioned the need for volunteers to sale programs at the Tom McBeath Horse Sale.
The dance at the Dixie National will be held again. We will have a DJ.
It was decided that since a saddle was not available this year we would not be able to raffle the saddle ths year as a fund raiser.
There will be a Youth meeting held at th Dixie National on Friday, February 16, at 3 p.m.
It was decided that the Youth Assoc. will host an ice cream party at the Dixie National for the small fry.
The attendance for the youth meetings was discussed but not finalized.
The youth show will have a pattern book. As in the past we will be selling sponsorships at the youth show.
Mark Clay noted that last year’s MQHYA Scrap Book was nominated and won it’s division at the Youth World held in Ft. Worth Texas in August. Special recognition was given the scrap book’s maker, Reporter: Jenny Ferguson.
Other Youth Association fund raisers were discussed. The fund raisers that were presented: A youth slave auction, St. Jude horse athon. A motion was made to keep the floor open and discuss this idea again at the March show. We decided that the money raised would be donated to Freedom Reins in Brookhaven, Ms.
MQHA President Garry Woodruff addressed the youth complimenting them
on the good job they are doing and to keep up the good work.
The election of the 2007 officers began.
Mark Clay discussed the responsibility and importance of each of the individual offices. A private, paper ballot was provided to each member for each elected office.
President Burks opened the floor for nominations for President.
Alexandra Knopp nominated Grace Cornett.
Mamie Tomlin nominated McKenzie Hunter.
Each nominee was allowed an opportunity to present themselves to the general membership.
A vote was taken with Grace Cornett being elected President.
President Burks opened the floor for nominations for Vice President.
Kristen Kimble was nominated by Jenny Ferguson.
McKenzie Hunter was nominated by Wyler Burks.
Wyler Burks was nominated by Mamie Tomlin.
Again, each nominee was given an opportunity to present themselves to the general membership.
A vote was taken and Wyler Burks was voted Vice President.
President Burks opened the floor for nominations for recording secretary.
Alexandra Knopp was nominated by Josie Burks.
McKenzie Hunter was nominated by Wyler Burks.
Again, each nominee was given an opportunity to present themselves to the general membership.
A vote was taken and Alexandra Knopp was elected Recording Secretary.
The floor for nominations was opened for Corresponding Secretary.
Mamie Tomlin was nominated by Mckenzie Hunter.
Again, each nominee was given an opportunity to present themselves to the general membership.
A vote was taken and Mamie Tomlin was elected Corresponding secretary.
President Burks opened the floor for nominations for Reporter.
Josie Burks was nominated by Alexandra Knopp.
Hart Daniel was nominated by McRae Clay. Again, each nominee was given an opportunity to present themselves to the general membership.
A vote was taken and Josie Burks was elected Reporter.
A vote was taken by secret ballot for this year’s Sportsmanship Award to be announced at that evening’s Banquet.
President Burks opened the floor for those interested in becoming a Director. Names were taken and the following people were accepted as Directors for 2007: Jenny Ferguson, Taylor Dunn, McKenzie Hunter and Courtney Lee.
A motion was made by Mamie Tomlin and seconded to adjourn the meeting. Motion carried.
